Abstract

|
In this paper, I explain the new entry of for-profit hospitals and the conversion of not-for-profit hospitals to for-profit hospitals in the current Korean medical industry consisting of individual clinics and not-for-profit hospitals, and build the
related models. In the case of the new entry, the raise in the medical fees earmarked by National Health Insurance Service has an unambiguous effect on the quality improvement in the medical services, however, the subsidy to individual clinics or that to for-profit hospitals has an ambiguous effect. In the case of the conversion, the subsidy to individual clinics improves the quality unambiguously, but that to for-profit hospitals does ambiguously. It is asserted that the new entry of the for-profit hospitals into the industry has affirmative aspects, on the other hand, the conversion of not-for-profit hospitals to for-profit hospitals has negative aspects.
